OUTSIDE THE WINDOW

A black cat clings to
An elm trunk,
Desperate
To leap onto a limb
And cuff the baby birds
Nesting within,
Doves
Shrilly shrieking,
Shrinking
From his clawed intent,
But (gathered in the arms of nature),

Safe.
