HEAT
It's a hot lazy day,
The sun beating down on the mountains
Emphatically,
Marking the intensity of summer.
Mid-morning the dogs are stretched out napping,
Energy spent from the heat,
And in a pine tree's shade,
Four deer quietly rest.
Years ago,
I would interpret the silence of such
A hot lazy day for
Nothingness,
A haze through which I wanted to break forth
And act and run and achieve, but now
In God's fullness of time,
Silence brings peace, and sometimes
Restoration.
